[ It feels like the poison's settled in his bones, because he still can't seem to quite catch his breath from all that laughter, and the weight of his own body is now starting to feel almost too heavy to keep up.

But he doesn't sway under the weight of it as the room wails at them to lament (a command that grates at him), and judging from Limbo's performance, it doesn't have to be wholly sincere to count. His expression is flinty throughout the various cries and insults that echo through the room, and by the end of it all his expression drops. ]

Lament what? What a farce this all is?

[ It's not exactly grief. He speaks firmly but barely raises his voice; his body language is restrained but the anger in his eyes is not, like the constant simmer of a star, burning itself to death.

It's the closest approximation to sadness that he can manage, which is its neighbor: bitterness. He was forced to laugh—he can't be forced to cry. ]

I regret nothing but the time I've been made to waste. I grieve that we've been put through these inane paces to follow the beats of a story that aren't our own. I lament that we've trailed the years of a man who doesn't have the will to stand for himself if not for revenge—that I might die at the end of this and still not see the point of it all. [ Because as far as he can see, there isn't one. They haven't made a difference here. They're just pieces in someone's stupid game—he supposes that's something worth lamenting. ]

[Of course its over the top. Everything about Limbo is, to compensate for.....well.]

[Something that isn't actually there?]

[But with the others joining in, Limbo's performance (with again, that weird edge of sincerity) rises, once more.]

Yes, yes! Mourn what may never be! Lament your chosen roles! Oh, Binghe, fallen into darkness, out of revenge! We'll mourn you too, hmm! Ah, please! Nothing more! We have experienced too much! Our victory is in sight, and yet so...so out of touch!

[He lets out a low noise. Gesturing to the woman above.]

Oh, what she does reflects what we all feel! The despair in our hearts, unable to be escaped! Alas! Alas. We may experience a fate worse than death.

[ wow guys i give you a chance to bitch out the system!!!

by the time it gets to limbo, everyone is more or less treading water in blood - the room is filling rapidly, and the viscous state of the blood tears makes it difficult to move. in fact, the shortest member of the party may find themselves being swept under --

but in a moment, all of the water just disappears.

the glass case underneath the group that held the xin mo sword is now open; the sword, pulsating an ominous black qi, practically begs to be picked up. and when one of them grabs the handle, a couple of things happen.

the first is that their surroundings seem to flicker; for a moment, the three of them are standing in what looks like a king's chamber, and sitting in a black chair is luo binghe, with at least five or six women fawning at his side. just sitting, he practically oozes power, the very face of a man who is on top of the world. all of his attention is forward, though, looking at a miserable creature in a pickle jar. actually... further inspection may make it clear that that's shen qingqiu - and he's still alive. his head lolls backwards; from this angle, it looks like he's maybe just a torso in there? and though nothing else in the room reacts to their presence, shen qingqiu suddenly regards the group with one eye, the other one clouded over and blinded.

he then opens his mouth, and...starts talking. the voice coming out of his mouth definitely belongs to that stern shizun, but it... ]

I understand what LZ is feeling. I’ve been reading through this novel lately, it’s so damn long, long and pumped full of filler.

I’ve never seen villains with a lower IQ than the ones in this book, a model example of ‘cannon fodder has an IQ of 40 and the protagonist has an IQ of 60’, it’s like the author went on a 24-hour face-slapping craze without losing steam. Most of the female protagonists are stupid flower vases, and you don’t even push down Liu Mingyan, the only righteous one? You don’t push down the rightful empress, are you fucking kidding me? If Airplane has ever had a girlfriend, I’ll eat this book raw.

And the writing style is incomparably terrible, each time a woman appears it’s “her soft chest trembled”, trembling my ass, you could at least try a different phrase, a different word would be fine ah? Serious question, who taught Airplane this elementary-schooler level writing?

At least the portrayal of the male lead was alright, the transformation from innocent and upstanding to hateful and sinister was detailed and natural, debts of kindness and grudges were paid off, those who should have been killed were mercilessly killed. Seeing the soft and whiny type of male lead just makes me want to slap him in the face. Bing-ge deserves that ‘ge’, he’s cool enough and blackened enough, I like it, haha!

[ guess you aren't the only one with feelings about proud immortal demon way, guys!

all of a sudden, the xin mo sword starts to shake, and the black energy curling off of it turns red. it forces the beholder to slash through the air - and a portal opens, as all three of you tumble through it, falling face first into the snow just outside of the lodge. you're still just as injured as you were in that other place, but you're back in your own clothes, and any weapons you found or magic you had is gone now.

and yet, as you sit up and try to get your bearings, you might hear a very, very familiar ping. ]
